A Hope man is facing new charges in Hempstead County for allegedly threatening a couple tied to a pending assault case. Prosecutors say 21-year-old My’Quan Ja’Kolan Sorrells blocked in the couple’s car at the Paradise Quick Stop in May and told them to “drop the charges.” The couple had their three young children with them.
The case stems from an earlier incident in July 2024 when Sorrells allegedly pulled a gun on the same family outside the same store. Police later arrested him on aggravated assault and drug charges after finding a loaded handgun, marijuana, and THC gummies in his possession.
Sorrells now faces charges of intimidating a witness, which carries up to 20 years in prison. He’s due back in court in October.
