While more than 2,200 private schools have signed up statewide, only four are approved in Bowie County—and none offer high school grades. Local participation has been modest so far, with just over 60 applicants reported between Pleasant Grove Independent School District and Texarkana Independent School District.
Statewide, demand is high, with more than 163,000 applications already submitted—exceeding available funding for about 100,000 students.
The program prioritizes students with disabilities and lower-income families. For now, limited school options may restrict how widely the program is used in the Texarkana area.
