A 31-year-old New Boston man is facing felony charges after allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend’s dog and hiding the body in the woods. Charles “Mitch” Patton Jr. reportedly admitted the act in a jailhouse letter, saying he shot the dog twice after an argument. He’s now charged with animal cruelty and possession of a firearm by a felon—both felonies that could bring up to 10 years in prison. Patton is also being held on a parole violation and has prior convictions, including a 2019 hate crime.
