Texarkana’s Board of Directors has delayed a vote on a proposed 10 p.m. drinking cutoff in the downtown entertainment district following a tense meeting Monday night.

Bar owners warned the change could hurt business, while police urged limits to control growing weekend crowds and rising overtime costs.
Police Chief Ed Chattaway said officers have dealt with fights and safety issues downtown, while business owners called for clearer rules before any changes.
The ordinance will now return to the Planning Commission for public input, leaving the current open-container hours unchanged for now.
