In the last two years, only a handful of applicants have made it through the hiring process, and many new hires have already left for higher-paying cities. Some candidates even declined job offers after realizing they’d take a pay cut.
The association warns that upcoming retirements, combined with ongoing departures, could leave Texarkana dangerously understaffed. They’re urging residents to contact city leaders and push for competitive pay and long-term staffing solutions.
