A Texarkana man is behind bars after police say he left two young children alone outside a Whataburger for nearly an hour. Officers were called August 24 to the restaurant on New Boston Road, where employees saw the children, ages 5 and 7, playing in the lobby after being left in a car in 95-degree heat.
Police say 27-year-old Dominick Ray Scheick was in the bathroom for 53 minutes and told officers he lost track of time. The children’s mother later picked them up. Scheick was arrested and remains in custody on $150,000 bond. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
