A Texarkana registered nurse is facing felony charges after authorities say she exploited a disabled stroke victim and misused his money.
According to a probable cause affidavit, 45-year-old Amanda Kaye McGuire allegedly obtained a durable power of attorney over the man’s financial affairs while he was severely impaired following a stroke. Investigators say she used his debit cards at Oklahoma casinos, racking up more than $5,500 in charges while he was hospitalized or in rehabilitation.
The man’s family told the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office he was not in condition to authorize the power of attorney.
McGuire is charged with exploitation of a disabled individual and misapplication of fiduciary property. She is free on $35,000 bond.
