The Texarkana Independent School District Board of Trustees has appointed Sherri Penix as the district's interim superintendent.

The Texarkana Independent School District Board of Trustees has appointed Sherri Penix as the district's interim superintendent.

Penix has more than 40 years of experience in public education and has served as TISD's deputy superintendent and chief innovation officer since 2021. She says she's honored by the board's confidence and looks forward to serving the district.

Penix replaces Superintendent Doug Brubaker, who is leaving August 12 to lead Chesapeake Public Schools in Virginia. The school board says a search for a permanent superintendent will begin in the coming weeks.
