The City of Texarkana, Texas has installed 10 new signs marking Trammel’s Trace—the first road into Texas from the North. The project, a collaboration with the Historic Landmark Commission and historian Gary L. Pinkerton, follows the original route through public roads and parks.

Trammel’s Trace, named after frontier trader Nicholas Trammell, was a key immigration path for early settlers. Pinkerton, author of Trammel’s Trace: The First Road to Texas from the North, helped identify the route.

A new historical marker is also in the works, with a public dedication planned. Residents can learn more at Texarkana City Hall or at garylpinkerton.com.
