Fifty-nine-year-old Michael Wayne Letterman faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of 21-year-old Billie Jean Letterman. Authorities say new ballistic evidence led to his arrest in October 2025.
According to court records, Letterman is scheduled to appear before Judge Carlton Jones on Monday, with a jury trial set for September 21. Investigators say Letterman had been a longtime person of interest in the case and became the prime suspect after a state crime lab report was reviewed last year.
Letterman has maintained that the shooting was accidental.
